Maine Coon Cats and Tropical Fish?

In 1983 I moved to Houston, Texas and decided I would do something my parents had discouraged me from doing - I was going to breed animals.  So, in 1984 UNICOON cattery was begun.

I always had cats, and they seemed like something I could work with. Since I started with the idea of breeding, I did not have a specific breed in mind.  I went to cat shows and looked at different breeds, talked with breeders about pros & cons of each breed.

I settled on Maine Coons and eventually acquired Ch Tycoon’s Spring Rain of Unicoon.  She was a nice blue patched tabby out of GC Tycoon’s Beau Brummell and Ch Tycoon’s Uptown Bimbo.  Spring championed  in both TICA and CFA.  And 4 of her kittens granded in each association.

And I discovered I really enjoyed showing and breeding Maine Coon Cats.

Tropical Fish are something I have done since I was a child.  I remember breeding Betta’s, though not very successfully.  When I was in the 4th grade, my teacher had an aquarium in the class room.  At the end of the year, she gave some guppies to take home.  They started me in this hobby.  Now I have 30+ aquariums as well as several fish ponds outside.  They give the cats something to watch during the day.
